Craft· Home Decor· Paint

DIY Faux Concrete and Felt Succulent Planter is an inexpensive home decor craft that will fill your home with color and a modern flair.  The triangle planter can be displayed on a coffee table, mantle, shelf, and more.

Hello there!  Do you love succulents?  I do but I can’t seem to keep them alive.  My husband jokes anytime I look at a real succulent that the plant has a death wish.  Anyway, I decided to create a succulent craft that I can keep around for awhile.  This DIY Faux Concrete and Felt Succulent Planter is super light-weight and easy to make.  I love the colors of the succulents and the modern look of the faux triangle planter made from foam.

Instructions:

I started by cutting the foam block in half on a diagonal angle using the StyroCutter® Plus.  You will get two triangle pieces.  I used both pieces to create the faux concrete planter.  Leave one half of the foam block like the picture above.

For the second half of the block, I used the cutter to cut out the center of the triangle leaving a 1 inch border.

Glue the cut-out triangle to the top of the solid triangle using StyroGlue®.  Make sure to line up the sides neatly and let dry completely.

To create a concrete look, I used DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste and mixed it with two grey fluid acrylic paints using the Foam Tools – Shaper.  I just eyeballed the color to a medium gray concrete color.  I applied two coats of the colored texture sand paste all over the foam.  Let dry completely.  I did use two jars of the texture sand paste for full coverage.

I made felt succulents using Felt-fetti oval, die cut shapes from Benzie Design.  You can find the tutorial to make the DIY felt succulents here.  Finally, I added some felt pom poms to fill in the extra space.

This is probably one of my favorite craft projects I have done in awhile.  I love the faux triangle concrete planter with the felt succulents.  The best part is that it’s light-weight and I can display it anywhere in my house.  This was such a fun and easy home decor craft idea that came together beautifully.

Wow, this is beautiful. Your felt succulents are so pretty, and I love the triangular shape, too.
