The Color Run 5k

The Color Run 5k race

On this past Sunday I had the opportunity of a life time to participate in The Color Run 5k in St.Louis, MO. One of my friends from high school who I recently connected with through running offered me an extra FREE ticket!

Um…YES, I will take the ticket! What a wonderful offer plus I get to spend some one on one quality time with my friend.

I’m sure many of you have heard of The Color Run. Runner’s World Magazine dedicated an entire issue this summer to The Color Run and other running series. They say it’s the happiest 5k on the Planet, which I would have to agree with.

The Happiest 5k on Earth

I was looking forward to the non-competitiveness of this race. Sometimes there is so much pressure on running fast and trying to PR during races. This race is laid back. You could walk, you could run, or you could even skip. The race was NOT timed…no pressure. There were weren’t any rules except to have fun and get ‘colored’!

The race was about 2 hours away from home, so my friend Tara and I started out very early in the morning, like way before the sunrise. Anyway, we made it to check in. I must say I was very impressed with how well everything was organized. We got our packets with no wait. Awesome!

Since we arrived SO early, there were many things to look at and take pictures of. Lots of fun colorful signs and banners. We even did a 45 minute Zumba session before the race!

I’m not quite sure of the number, but there were hundred if not thousands of people who ran. We all lined up at the start and were released by waves or sections. They had four color stations during the 3.1 miles course where volunteers doused you in a specifc color powder. The color stations were: pink, blue, yellow and orange.

The Start Line

Once we completed the color stations we crossed the finish line. This is where we got to open our color packet that was given to us at check in and release it into the air. Covering the crowd with a rainbow of colors.

All of the staff and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. This was a well organized and thought out race. By far this was my favorite race I have done! What was even better was running it with a friend.

Running with a friend

This is my friend Tara who invited me to do The Color Run. She is a friend and fellow mom, runner and blogger. Her blog is called Mommy Head Adventures where she shares stories of raising her family, her journey running and all her crazy adventures. Please share the love and check out Tara’s blog.
