Oil Based DIY Gold Sharpie Teapot

Oil Based DIY Gold Sharpie Teapot by www.thecasualcraftlete.com

I am a lover of all things coffee and tea.  Some might say I have a slight addiction.  If you count drinking an entire pot of coffee per day by myself an addiction, then I’m guilty.  Recently a dear friend of mine gave me a beautiful container of peach tea and I realized I don’t have a teapot.   So, I went to the store and bought a basic white teapot and turned it into an Oil Based DIY Gold Sharpie Teapot.  I just love how modern and elegant it looks!

Have you noticed a gold trend lately?  I have!  Either that or I am just late to the game but I’m loving all things gold.  I even might have a slight obsession.  So, I was happy to find a gold oil base sharpie for this project.  I really like the gold instead of the basic black.  I bought the teapot from Target.  It’s made by Threshold and I just love their all white dinnerware set.  I have a couple of coffee mugs (go figure) but I would really like the whole set…hint hint.

MATERIALS:

  • Porcelain teapot
  • Gold sharpie (make sure it is oil based)
  • Tag punch
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape

How to make a stencil for oil sharpie crafts www.thecasualcraftlete.com

First, I started by making a tag stencil.  You can always draw free hand but I’m not that good.  I made a tag by using a paper punch.   I don’t need the tag, just the transparent space.  Then I cut around the punch out with a pair of scissors.

Then, I taped the tag punch out onto the teapot using washi tape because it was close by.  You can use any kind of tape just make sure the paper edges are flat against the teapot.

Pump the Sharpie a few times to release the ink.  Color in the tag punch out being careful around the edges.  I also added dots to look like a teabag string.  After waiting 5 minutes or until the paint is dry, remove the tape and paper.

Place the teapot in an oven and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Leave the porcelain teapot in the oven until cool.

The paint Sharpie is dishwasher safe on the top rack.

Your Oil Based DIY Gold Sharpie Teapot is complete!  Of course you can decorate the teapot anyway you like.  I just like the simple style of the gold teabag.

The inspiration for the gold came from the tea container that my friend gave me.  I’m a sucker for pretty packing and all things gold.  She knows me so well.

Cheers!

This is the best sharpie project I have seen! I LOVE the gold and the simple pretty design. This would be so cute on plain white tea cups too! Pinning.

This is beautiful. I do a Foodie Pen Pal swap on my foodie site (yumeating.com) and the last one I did my pal sent me a beautiful tea pot. I see a lot of plain ones at thrift shops. I have done the Sharpie on the coffee cups and plates but never occurred to me to decorate the simple tea pots. I think I will do a few of these for Christmas this year.

    fantastic DIY!
I have a question, in my local store they didn’t sell sharpie.. so if I use oil paint, does it work too? thank you!

Used your tutorial this weekend but put a reindeer on it instead 🙂 It turned out super cute until… i baked it! It turned a very muted grey color and doesn’t look gold anymore. I used the same sharpie and everything. Any idea why this would happen?

Oh no! I’m not sure how it turned grey. I left my teapot in the oven about 30 minutes after baking it to let it cool. I didnt have any problems with the gold turning a different color.
