Modern Baby Boy Card

Craft· Handmade Gifts· Paper

IMG_1485[1]

My friend who lives two states away is pregnant with a little boy. I am beyond happy for her and wanted to make card that was hip and modern. There are so many baby cards that are cute and sweet. Don’t get me wrong I love making those too, but I wanted to do something a little different.

These are the supplies I used, but of course you can use anything you already have.

  • Cricut Machine
  • Cricut Calligraphy Collection Font Cartridge
  • Cricut Adhesive Mat
  • Simple Stories 24/Seven 6×6 Paper Pad
  • White Card Stock
  • Corner Rounder Punch
  • Adhesive Runner
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Washi Tape
  • Martha Stewart Glue Pen
  • Red Sharpie Marker
  • 3D Foam Squares
  • Paper Cutter
  • Pre-made Card

First I started with my piece of white Card Stock. I measured just a little smaller than the pre-made card so you can see some of the card poking through. I used the paper cutter to cut the size I needed. The card is light gray with polka dots…very cute!

Next I took two different pieces of paper from the Simple Stories paper pad. One piece is dark gray with a chevron paper and the other has arrows on it. I cut them to the sizes I wanted using the paper cutter. Just like the last step, I wanted the white card stock to peek through a bit. Once cut I adhered the pieces of paper to the card stock using my tape runner. This is my favorite tape runner. Then I used the corner rounder punch on all four corners.

Now to add some fare! I used a red chevron and a light blue star transparent Washi tape. The red chevron is the length of the white card stock and wrapped around the back. I just torn a piece of the blue star tape to a smaller size. Washi tape is so decorative and it is a forgiven material meant to be torn using your fingers.

To add some more visual affects I cut two small triangles out of two more pieces of the paper pad. I adhered them using the runner tape. Next I added some twine and glued it on top of the triangles with the glue pen and tucked the extra twine to the back of the card stock.

Next I used my Cricut Machine to make the letters to spell B O Y. I placed my white card stock on the Cricut adhesive mat. I used the Cricut Calligraphy Collections Font Cartridge and cut 1 1/2 inch letters. Using the glue pen I adhered the letters to the dark gray paper.

The last step I did was the most personal touch. The Simple Stories paper pad had a piece of paper with a calender on it. I cut out the month of July and circled the 9th with a red sharpie. (My friend had her baby boy 4 weeks early). SO, I knew exactly the day he was born. Finally I placed the ‘July’ cutout on the card with 3D foam squares and ahered the card stock to the pre-made card using the tape runner.
