Homemade Peanut Butter

Better Choices· Cook· Side Dish

Homemade Peanut ButterThe other day I had a coffee date with one of my fabulous friends.  Among lots of other things, we were discussing all the homemade items we make.  She gave me this recipe for homemade peanut butter and said I must put it on my blog!

I just love making my own food, laundry detergent and cleaning products.   I also recently made soap (still waiting for it to cure).  It brings a peace of mind knowing all the ingredients and the process of making things.

Ingredients to make homemade peanut butter

Make sure when you are making peanut butter to use a food processor.  I started by making mine in a regular blender and blew the motor.  It was 8 years old anyway but I guess it just couldn’t handle grinding the nuts.  My neighbor let me borrow her food processor.

Start by processing the nuts by themselves.  The peanuts will turn to crumbles then a powder like consistency.  Then add the oil, honey and salt and continue to process until the mixture  reaches desired consistency.

Using a food processor to make peanut butter

My friend recommend adding blueberry flax granola into the mixture.  Instead of adding it in, I just sprinkled some on top.  I store the peanut butter in a mason jar in the pantry.  Make sure you stir before each use.  The oil can settle so you just need to mix it back in.

We eat a lot of peanut butter in my house and this recipe is wonderful!
