How To Make Holiday Stove Top Potpourri

Cook· Craft· Holidays· Home Decor· Side Dish

Are you looking for a quick way to get into the holiday spirit?  One of my favorite inexpensive methods to get me in the Christmas mood is making a stove top potpourri recipe made with smells of the season.

Simmering some of the best holiday scents will perfume the air in your home making a warm and cozy environment.  Just hearing the bubbling of the wafting potpourri on the stove will make your house smell amazing and fill it with holiday cheer.

Make your house smell amazing during the holidays

Whenever you smell certain scents it can trigger a certain memory in an instant.  Cranberries always remind me of Thanksgiving even if we only eat the canned cranberry jelly.  It is still apart of our holiday tradition.  This will be my first time ever hosting Thanksgiving and you bet I will have a big pot of this holiday potpourri on.  When my family comes over they will be greeted with the wonderful aromas.

The Best Holiday Scents

During the winter months I am into cinnamon and woodsy fragrances.  Which is sort of weird because I have such a sweet tooth and one would think I would be all about the sugar plums and gumdrops.  Nope, not the case.  Instead, for my holiday stove pot potpourri, I am using cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, fresh rosemary, pear slices and cranberries.  Apples and oranges are more popular, but I am mixing things up by using pears because yhey are perfect in the fall and winter.

Try these year round stove top potpourri recipes:

Holiday Stove Top Potpourri

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 pear, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 3 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cups water
Directions:

Place all the wonderful aroma ingredients into a pot and fill with water.  Then, let the holiday stove top potpourri simmer on low all day long or as long as you like.  You just want to make sure you are refilling the pot with water.  Water will evaporate and you don’t want the ingredients to burn and stick to the bottom of the pot.  That is no good at all.  You can also place the potpourri into a small crock pot if you prefer.

I can almost smell this sitting at my computer. My mother used to do this when I was a kid and I loved tracking the smell back to the pot to see what all she had inside. Also, your photography skills are amazing. I find myself clicking through all your posts based off the pictures without reading any tag lines or headers. Lol
