Hello there!  Today I am sharing a simple and scrumptious recipe for overnight French Toast Casserole.  With the holiday season coming up, I am all about planning and make ahead recipes.  The last thing I need to worry about is trying to figure out what to feed the family amongst the business.  This ooey gooey crunchy french toast casserole is a for sure recipe to put on your menu this year.  You can make this casserole the night before and you probably already have all the ingredients needed at home.  Just refrigerate overnight and bake the next morning for breakfast.  This sweet casserole is a must try!

Overnight French Toast Casserole

Growing up as a kid french toast was always one of my favorite breakfast recipes but I usually only got to eat it on special occasions.  I definitely prefer sweet dishes for breakfast over savory ones.  If you are more into savory recipes, check out my Loaded Breakfast Casserole.  It has lots of savory components to the dish.  Anyway, getting back to this french toast casserole.  All you need are a few simple and easy ingredients to make this recipe. It’s just a loaf of french bread, eggs, milk, half and half, vanilla, cinnamon, flour, brown sugar, butter and a special ingredient, vanilla sugar.  Of course, if you don’t have vanilla sugar you can use regular granulated sugar but I would recommended making your own with vanilla beans.  Doesn’t that list of ingredients sound good?  You can’t go wrong!

Ingredients
  1. 1 loaf french bread, cubed
  2. 6 eggs
  3. 2 cups milk (I used 1%)
  4. 3/4 cup half and half
  5. 1/4 cup vanilla sugar or granulated sugar
  6. 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
For topping
  1. 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  2. 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  3. 3 Tablespoons butter, cold
  4. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  5. Pure maple syrup
Instructions
  1. Cut bread into 1 inch cubes. Place in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish or 2 1/2 quart dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl whisk together eggs, milk, half and half, sugar, and vanilla. Pour liquid mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  4. In a small mixing bowl combine brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Add the butter and use a fork to cut butter into mixture until it forms small pea size crumbs. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over the soaked bread
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through or when you insert a knife in the middle and it comes out clean
  6. Serve warm topped with pure maple syrup

    Yum! I think I am going to have to make this ahead of time just to make sure everyone will love it at the Holidays. I think 3 or 4 times should do it. haha It looks fantastic and I can hardly wait to try it! Thanks for sharing.
