Embroidery Hoop Cork Memo Board and Thumbtacks - easy and cute craft project for the office, craft room, or kids' bedroom.

Hi, my name is Katie and I’m addicted to pretty fabric.  I just love all the pretty patterns and colors from sheets of fabric.  My heart swoons over gorgeous floral prints.  Today, I am sharing how to make an Embroidery Hoop Cork Memo Board and Thumbtacks.  This craft project is very simple to make and also very inexpensive.  It’s a great way to show off beautiful fabric and if you have leftover scraps, this would be a great way to use them up.  Any home office or craft room would love to have a custom memo board hanging on the wall.

Supplies needed:  (affiliate links)

Embroidery Hoop Cork Board:

  • Embroidery Hoop (I used a 5-Inch and 6-Inch hoops)
  • Fabric (I used the Morning Walk Town Lake Collection)
  • Cork Roll
  • X-ACTO
  • Paint (optional)
  • Scissors

Thumbtacks:

  • Button Kit
  • Fabric
  • E6000 Jewelry and Bead Adhesive
  • Earring Posts
  • Pliers

Instructions:

Start by laying out the cork roll onto a craft cutting mat.  Place the inside ring of the hoop, the one without the screw, on the cork roll.  Use a sharp X-ACTO knife to cut approximately 1 inch beyond the hoop.  Then cut small slits from the edge of the cork to the hoop.  This allows the cork to fit inside the hoop more evenly without bubbles.

Next, place the cut-out piece of cork onto the fabric.  Cut the fabric the same size as the cork.

Place the outer hoop around the inside hoop, cork, and fabric.  Then screw the closure on.

You can paint the embroidery hoops to add pops of color.  I painted the smaller 5 inch hoop using Americana Multi-Surface paint in Soft Jade.  I thought the minty color would look great with the cactus print.

Finally, I made some thumbtacks to use on my embroidery hoop cork memo boards.  I am using fabric from the same collections.  That way everything is cohesive.  I made the thumbtacks the exact same way as my fabric button earrings.  You can find the complete step by step tutorial here.

I am so happy how these memo boards and thumbtacks turned out!  I can’t wait to hang them in my office and display notes and pictures.  Looking at the pretty fabric will bring me such happiness.
