DIY Mini Frame Magnets – create these fun and functional magnets using scrapbook paper and mini frames to display on the fridge or at the office!

DIY Mini Frame Magnets - create these fun and functional magnets using scrapbook paper and mini frames to display on the fridge or at the office!

Hello there!  Today, I am sharing my only craft project this week before I head out tomorrow to SNAP! Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.  I wanted to create a really cute and fun five minute project using some items I picked up at Michael’s last weekend.  These DIY Mini Frame Magnets are not only adorable but also great for displaying messages and reminders.  They are made with just a few simple supplies and are quick and easy to make.  You could even give these mini frame magnets away as gifts.

Most of the time I have a list when I go into Michael’s and most of the time I pick up random items like these mini frames from the dollar spot as well as a Heidi Swapp paper pad.  When I bought these items I had no idea what I was going to do with them until a few days later when I came up with the idea to make some DIY Mini Frame Magnets.

Supplies:

  • Heidi Swapp 8.5in x 8.5in paper pad
  • Mini frames
  • Magnets
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Paint and brushes *optional

Instructions:

I started by choosing four pieces of paper from the paper pad that were my favorite.  Next, using a pencil, I traced around each of the four frames.  Then I cut just inside the traced lines, cutting out four of the frame shapes.  The frames had foam stickers on the back that I just peeled off.  The frames are approximately 1.5in x 1.5in in size.

I painted three of the frames using Americana acrylic paint in Sea Glass, Spicy Mustard, and Peaches n’ Cream and left one of the frames white.  I allowed the paint to dry and used a fine grit piece of sand paper to lightly distress the frames.  Both of these steps are optional but I think worth it.  It adds color and character to the frames.

Finally, I used a hot glue gun to glue the cut out pieces of paper to the back of the frames.  Then, I glued the magnets to the back of the paper.

I love the pretty patterns of this paper pad.  There are floral designs, geometric shapes, pastels, and bright colors.  A little something for everyone and the paint really makes the frames pop.
