Craft Crate Organizer – use Multi-Surface and Chalkboard paint to create colorful and functional storage for craft and office supplies.

Craft Crate Organizer - use Multi-Surface and Chalkboard paint to create colorful and functional storage for craft and office supplies.

Hello there!  Hope you had a fantastic Christmas.  Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to start about thinking about the new year.  This year I am bound and determined to get my crazy craft room/office organized.  It is a total disaster and drives me crazy every single day when I have to go in there.  So, I thought I would start with a super simple craft crate organizer to help store my materials.  I chose happy and bright colors along with chalkboard paint that helps label what’s inside this super cute pre-made wood crate.  Grab a paint brush and let’s get started!

Craft Room Organization using Wooden Crate

Raise your hand if you love the dollar spot at Target!  I am sure most of us do.  I found the cutest pre-made wooden crate for $3 in one of the bids.  The crafting options are endless and I thought I would use the crate as storage for my craft room.  Also, I really like working with raw wood because there is no prep involved.

Americana Multi-Surface Satin Paint and Chalkboard Paint

Supplies:

  • Americana Multi-Surface Satin 2 oz Paint in Soft Jade, Lemon Zest, Shrimp and Cotton Ball
  • Americana Chalkboard paint 2 oz
  • Paint Brushes
  • Wooden Crate

Instructions:

DIY Craft Storage

First, I started by painting the inside of the wood crate using American multi-surface satin paint in Cotton Ball.  This is a bright white color and I just love it.  I did need to paint a couple coats of this paint color to cover the raw wood.  The cotton ball color is just so crisp and clean looking.  Oh, and did you know white is my favorite color?  It’s true.  I loooove white.

Next, I painted the slats on both sides of the crate.  I painted the top slat cotton ball to tie into the inside of the crate.  Then I used the colors Shrimp, Soft Jade, and Lemon Zest.  These colors are so bright and fun.  This color palette is my office and craft room decor colors and this craft crate organizer fits right in.

Finally, I painted both ends of the crate with Americana Chalkboard Paint.  The chalkboard paint helps me to write on the crate what the contents are inside.  Labeling the crate just helps me to better find my supplies and materials.

You know when you glance at something and the colors catch your eye and you smile because it makes you happy?  Well, this little craft crate organizer does that for me.  I just love that is bright and tiny.  But it is also big enough to hold my many paint brushes.

Great project – I love those crates there is so much you can do with them. This is perfect for storing craft supplies. I built myself an art cart last year and it actually turned out to be more of a craft cart. Love those bright colors.
