DIY I NEED COFFEE Shirt Using Heat Transfer Vinyl - inexpensive and easy to make shirt for any coffee lover.

Hello there!  I finally made my very own t-shirt and it was so super easy.  Lately, I have been into graphic tees, especially the ones with catchy sayings on them.  But, if I can be honest, they are kind of expensive.  It’s hard for me to spend $35 plus dollars for a t-shirt.  SO, today, I am sharing this DIY I NEED COFFEE shirt using heat transfer vinyl plus the free cut file to make your very own.  Since I am a coffee addict, it was only fitting that I make a shirt to profess to the world that I can not live without a cup of joe.  The struggle is real people, but the shirt is cute!

Supplies:  *aff. links

  • Shirt
  • Heat Transfer Vinyl in black
  • I NEED COFFEE Cut File (personal use only)
  • Electronic Cutting Machine
  • Transfer Tape
  • Weeding Tool
  • Iron
  • Dish Towel

Instructions:

Start by downloading the I NEED COFFEE Cut File (personal use only).  I also washed the shirt before starting the project.

Once you have downloaded the cut file, you then need open it in Silhouette Studio using the open button.  You can change the size if you need to in order to fit your shirt.  This file should fit nicely with no changes.  After placing your heat transfer vinyl on the template, cut out the design.

How to use heat transfer vinyl on a shirt

Next, weed out the negative space of the design using a weeding tool.  Place a piece of transfer tape on top of the design and cut around it.  Remove the plastic backing from the vinyl.  Place the design on the desired spot on the shirt.  The shirt I used for this project is a Small.  I bought it at Wal-Mart for less than $5.  You can’t beat that!  Image size may vary depending on size of the shirt.

Place a dish towel over the vinyl transfer and heat with an iron.  You may need to flip the shirt inside out and iron the inside of the shirt where the vinyl transfer is as well, also using the dish towel.  Make sure to iron on the highest setting with no steam.  Slowly move the iron around the entire design to make sure it adheres well.  This may take several minutes depending on your iron.  Wash the shirt inside out.

That’s it!  Just a few steps with inexpensive materials.  I love it!
