Birthday Present Card

Hello there!  Today I am sharing two of my favorite things; card making and pretty paper.  This Birthday Present Card was inspired by Rifle Paper Co.  It is super cute and can be used for all occasions.  With just a few easy steps you can make your own.

Over Christmas I was able to actually go to a Paper Source store in Chicago.  They sell lots of Rifle Paper Co products and I bought a couple pieces of wrapping paper.  I used this mint floral wrapping paper made by Rifle Paper Co for my handmade card, which was actually inspired by them too.

Rifle Paper Co vs DIY Version

So, you are probably wondering why I made a card using wrapping paper from Rifle Paper Co.  Why not just by the card?  Well, it is cheaper to make a DIY version because you can make more than just one card from the wrapping paper.  Plus, I love handmade cards.

Here are the materials needed to make the card:

  • White cardstock
  • Wrapping paper or you can use scrapbook paper
  • Paper bow
  • Paint
  • Glitter cardstock
  • Tag punch
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Adhesive tape

Let’s make the card!

DIY Card using cardstock and premade card

First I started by making the card.  I traced around a premade card using a pencil on white cardstock.  Using scissors, cut out the card.  Then fold in half.

Next, I cut a piece of the wrapping paper that I wanted to use for the front of my card.

On the back of the wrapping paper, I traced the front of the card using a pencil.  Then I cut the piece out.

Easy to make Birthday Present Card

Before placing the wrapping paper onto the cardstock, I cut a piece of ribbon and attached it to the back of the wrapping paper using adhesive tape.  You could also use double sided tape.  This will keep the edges of the ribbon hidden so you have a nice solid edge.

Then I taped the wrapping paper to the cardstock.

Next, I used a corner rounder punch on all four corners.

Present Bows

I found these self adhesive kraft paper bows at Michael’s in the 75% off Christmas stuff.  I painted the bows to match the wrapping paper using acrylic paint.

The paper bows already had a sticky foam square on the back.  I attached the bow to the ribbon.

Gold Glitter Tag

The last step was to make a gold glitter tag using cardstock and a punch.  You could also use a die cutting machine or if you have a fancy machine like a Silhouette.

Then I used adhesive tape to stick the tag to the front of the card.  I left the tag blank in case I wanted to say something other than “Happy Birthday”.

What gorgeous paper (I am sucker for lovely paper and find myself forced to buy sheets of it regularly!)
This is such a versatile idea, any size, any paper, any tag – great!
