Rustic Present Ornament

Craft· Holidays· Home Decor· Paper

Rustic Present OrnamentAre you done decorating your Christmas tree?  Today I am sharing how to make this adorable Rustic Present Ornament!  This ornament is made with simple materials and tools you probably already have at home.  It is very inexpensive and easy to make.  This present ornament will fit  in with any pretty rustic decor you have.

My inspiration for this ornament came from the Cracker Barrel restaurant.  Have you seen the ornaments they have?  They are so pretty!  Each year I buy at least one ornament from there but this year I was inspired to do a DIY of my own.

Materials to make gift package ornamentMaterials:

  • Muslin
  • Box
  • Burlap
  • Ribbon or twine
  • Cardstock
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pen

I bought a small box at my local craft store but you can use a box you already have on hand at home.

Muslin gift package ornament

First I put the cardboard box together.  Then I measured the muslin like I was wrapping a present.  Just make sure to pull on the muslin so it is nice and tight.

To secure the muslin in place, I wrapped a 1 inch piece of burlap, pulling tight.  Make sure to place the burlap over the sides that have extra muslin where you folded.  Then, I hot glued the burlap to the bottom of the muslin wrapped box.

Next, I tied two different pieces of twine around the present.  I choose a white woven twine that I wrapped around the large burlap and a second brown and white mixed twine that I wrapped the opposite direction.  Then, I took the two ends of both pieces of twine and made one single bow.

DIY Paper Flowers

To add some color, I made three paper flowers using a deep red cardstock, glitter gel pen, scissors and hot glue gun.  I  used the same technique to make the flowers from my Pretty Paper Flower Centerpiece post which you can find here.

I tucked the paper flowers by the bow and hot glued them to the burlap.  To finish the ornament I tied a piece of jute twine around the bow to hang the present on my Christmas tree.

This pretty rustic present ornament took no time to make.  I am thrilled of how it turned out and how simple and pretty it looks.

You could even use this present for your Christmas decor.  Just place on a mantel or shelf to add to your Christmas pretties.

Very sweet! I have to admit that we don’t even have a “real” tree this year. I made all these ornaments, but then we ended up with a flat “wall tree” instead of something in a stand! Visiting from Create it Thursday =)
