Death By Chocolate Poke Cake

Cook· Dessert

Made from scratch Death By Chocolate Poke Cake by www.thecasualcraftlete.comMmm…Death By Chocolate Poke Cake.  Need I say anymore?  You guys, this cake is amazing!  It’s made from scratch with three layers of sinfully sweet chocolate.  Its a super moist and decadent cake with gooey fudge glaze and mini chocolate chips for topping. This cake recipe is a chocolate lovers dream come true.  Grab a glass of milk or cup of coffee and let’s get started!

Death By Chocolate Pole Cake The Casual CraftleteThe cake is made from scratch.  No box mix here.  It’s really simple.  You start by whisking your dry ingredients in a large bowl.  Then add the wet ingredients and mix with an electric or stand mixer.  The cake batter will be really runny when you pour it into your baking dish but not to worry.  It will turn into the best chocolate cake ever!

Chocolate Poke Cake by www.thecasualcraftlete.comWhile the cake is cooling you make the chocolate glaze to pour inside and on top of the cake.  You mix all the ingredients into a medium sauce pan over the stove and bring to a boil.  After boiling one minute, set it aside to cool for five minutes.  While the glaze is cooling, use the handle of a wooden spoon and poke holes into the cooled cake.  Pour the glaze into a stand mixer and beat for three minutes.  Then pour the glaze into the poked holes and gently spread with a spatula.  I like to top my cake with cool whip and mini chocolate chips.

Cake
  1. 2 cups granulated sugar
  2. 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  3. 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  4. 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  5. 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  6. 1 tsp kosher salt
  7. 2 eggs
  8. 1 cup milk
  9. 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  10. 2 tsp vanilla extract
  11. 1 cup boiling water
Glaze
  1. 1 cup granulated sugar
  2. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  3. 1/4 cup butter
  4. 1/4 cup milk
  5. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  6. Whipped topping
  7. Mini chocolate chips for topping
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt until well combined.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla into the dry ingredients and beat on medium for 3 minutes with a hand or stand mixer. *Note: the cake batter will be thin and runny but will set up in the baking process.
  4. Pour the cake batter into greased baking pan. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for at least 10 minutes.
  5. For the glaze, add all of the ingredients into a medium saucepan on the stove. Bring to a rolling boil and boil for 1 minute. Set aside and cool for 5 minutes. After cooling, beat the glaze with mixer for 3 minutes.
  6. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, carefully poke deep holes into the cooled cake. Pour the glaze into the holes and on top of the cake. Carefully spread the glaze with a spatula.
  7. Once the entire cake is completely cool, spread whipped topping on top of the cake and sprinkle mini chocolate chips.
