If you haven’t noticed there’s red white and blue everywhere! I wanted to make some decorations for my home and came up with this Happy 4th of July Paper Straw Banner. It’s made with paper rosettes, glitter stickers and of course, paper straws. I have this super easy to make banner hanging on my hutch in the dinning room.
Materials:
- Scrapbook paper
- White cardstock
- Paper straws
- Glitter stickers
- Adhesive tape
- Twine
- Paper cutter
- Scissors
- 2 inch round paper punch
- Strips of fabric *optional
First, I started by making the paper rosettes or medallions, whichever you would like to call them. I have a full tutorial HERE on how to make them. So, I cut six 1 1/2 inch strips of 12″ x 12″ red and white striped scrapbook paper. Then I used my Martha Stewart mini scoring board to score and fold the paper strips into rosettes. Using a 2″ round circle paper punch, punch out two pieces of white cardstock. Place the adhesive tape to one side of the cut out round pieces and stick it on the front and back of the rosettes. *NOTE: Place the baker’s twine used to string the banner in between the rosette and the back before adhering. See steps further down.
I placed some red glitter letter stickers onto each rosette spelling out HAPPY 4. Glitter makes everything better!
I took a pair of scissors and cut the paper straws in half. I thought the entire straw was a bit too big. I LOVE the blue with white polka dots!
To assemble the banner I used a piece of blue and white baker’s twine and strung the paper straws and rosettes, alternating every other. I also cut a piece of patriotic fat quarter fabric and tied it at each end of the banner.

Your banner is so cute and different, like that it is little different than others I’ve seen on blog land. There are so many to pick from to make. I’d like to make them all. Making paper or fabric banners is one of my favorite projects, like to combine unusual ways to make them. Nice thing about making them is can use whatever materials we want and combine them whatever way we want. I like to give them to people then to decorate their porches or homes. Our daughter/family like to decorate their home and yard for holidays so I give them things I make.
We’re lucky to have a small front porch which I enjoy very much. Do you have a front porch you decorate? Other people in our neighborhood don’t decorate their homes or porches for holidays, but we still do even tho we’re older.
