DIY Fall Burlap Banner

DIY Fall Burlap Banner

I just love decorating my porch for fall.  It is my favorite season of the year!  And, my porch is my favorite place to be on a crisp morning sipping some Hazelnut coffee, reading my Bible and waiting for my daughter to wake up.  It’s my special alone time.  SO, why not make it pretty!

Alone time on the front porch

Alone time on the front porch

I would like to show everyone how super easy and cheap it was to make the FALL burlap banner!

How to make a burlap banner

Materials needed:

  • Burlap bunting
  • Cricuit machine with lettering cartridge
  • Ink pad
  • Ink blending tool
  • Hot glue gun
  • Burlap twine

Step 1:  I used my Cricut machine with the Calligraphy cartridge to cut the letters F, A, L, L.  I did not want to use the letter themselves, just the cut-outs, which make for a great stencil.

Using a Cricut to make letter stencil

Step 2:  I used masking tape to hold the paper stencil in place on the burlap bunting.  For the letter A I placed a glue dot for the center piece.  * I found the burlap bunting pre cut at Hobby Lobby.  They came in a package of four which was prefect to spell out FALL.

Stenciling on Burlap

Step 3:  Using a ink blending tool with a foam applicator, I dabbed it into a burnt orange color ink.  I went over the paper stencil with the blending tool a couple times to get the desired ink darkness I wanted.

Using ink and a paper stencil

Step 4:  After letting the ink dry on all four pieces of burlap, I hot glued a piece of burlap twine to the back.  Now you have a beautiful banner!  I loved how it turned out and I do give myself some credit for thinking of a different and creative way to come up with a stencil.  *If I am going to be honest, I just didn’t want to go out and buy a plastic lettering stencil and paint.  I am ALL about using things I already have at home!

Burlap Banner

I used the banner to decorate a wooden crate that I already had in my house.  I tied a knot in each end of the burlap twine around the crate.  To add some color I just made a bow with some burnt orange color raffia that I had leftover from my Autumn Wreath I made.

Decorating the front porch for fall

I placed some yellow and orange mums into the crate and decorated with real fall pumpkins and gourds, apples from the neighbor’s tree  and a couple of candles.

Burlap Banner

Now while I am sitting on my porch swing watching the leaves change colors, I can admire my Fall decorations!

It’s so silly, but I never thing to use my Cricut to create stencils!! I have all this vinyl that I make letters from, but I never remember I can use the cutouts. Thanks for the reminder 🙂 Maybe I’ll remember next time, haha. Love your little bunting — simple & cute!

Very cute! I don’t have a cricut (wish I did) but I’ve used letter stencils from Michael’s/Hobby Lobby.

You Fall burlap sign is darling! Just perfect for the porch.I just created a burlap banner over this past weekend. I can’t afford a cricut or silhouette so I did mine by printing the letters and using a craft knife to cut them out. I’d love it is you came and checked it out!
