Washi Tape Purse for Kids

My daughter Ellie is two and just recently started getting into playing dress up. She loves to put on all her accessories…hats, bracelets, gloves. You name it she wears it. So, I wanted to make a purse that was cute, inexpensive and if it broke then who cares.

All you need to make this is purse is:

  • Paper bag
  • Washi tape
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hole puncher
  • Twine

First I started with a Glassine bag I bought at Michael’s. You can find these bags in the baking section.

Next I took a piece of Washi tape and traced a border around all four sides of the bag with a pencil.

Then with different color washi tape i made a diagonal pattern in the center of the paper bag. Starting in the bottom left corner and working my way to the top right corner.

Then I added a dark color washi tape as the border. That way you don’t see the uneven pieces of tape.

I punched two holes on the top corners of the bag by the opening.

Hole Punch

The last thing that I did was tie a piece of baker’s twine through each of the punched holes to create a strap.

Baker's Twine

My daughter likes to carry her chap stick, bracelet and hand sanitizer in her purse.

Paper Crafts

My daughter is only two, but if you had an older child this purse would be a great craft project for them to make on their own!

What a great craft! My niece is into making things from duct tape. I should introduce her to Washi. 🙂

Thanks Cindy! I love washi tape SO much more than duct tape. Hope your niece likes it too.

    This is so cute, Katie!
I can see my kids wanting to help with this one and they are already little “bag ladies” when it comes to little purses- how fun to make their own!

I wanted to invite you to link it up at my Sharing Time link party- I would love to see you there regularly!
